CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball used a 23-0 second half run to get past Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 65-57, Monday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 6-4 on the season, including 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Emily Lee led Pomona-Pitzer with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from deep, while
Avery Patricco added 10 points.
Jadyn Lee had eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks while
Kayla Malek posted eight points and four assists.
Teams traded baskets early, with a Patricco driving layup making it 11-9 Monks six minutes into the contest. But Saint Joseph's finished the quarter strong, leading 22-15 through 10 minutes of play. J. Lee added a driving layup of her own in the second quarter, making it 29-23 Monks. She added another layup late in the half, but Saint Joseph's carried a 42-27 advantage into the locker room.
The Monks secured their largest lead of the game, 44-27, one minute into the third quarter.
Sofia Robel later hit a jumper before a Monks triple made it 49-35 midway through the third. The Sagehens, though, proceeded to flip the script and used a 23-0 run to take control of the game.
E. Lee hit a three to start the run, while
Molly Pieper, J. Lee, Robel, Patricco, Malek and Chicco each added baskets to put Pomona-Pitzer up 49-58 with 7:53 left in the fourth. The Sagehens maintained control of their lead throughout the rest of the contest, as
Shea Joko and
Kellie Au hit timely baskets down the stretch and Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 65-57 win.
