CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer defeated Occidental College 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at home to advance to the SCIAC Tournament championship game.
Sabina Peterson Rajalingam led the Sagehens with her first career brace, scoring in the 14th and 24th minutes. Lucia Page Sander added a goal in the 39th minute while Anjali Nuggehalli and Hannah Hong each recorded an assist.
The Tigers posted the first two shots of the game early, with Patricia DePalma saving one in the 13th minute. Nuggealli then found Peterson Rajalingam a minute later with a cross from the right side, as Peterson Rajalingam tapped the ball in the bottom right corner to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead.
Peterson Rajalingam doubled the Sagehens' lead 10 minutes later, firing a ball in from Hong at the top of the box into the bottom right corner again. Then in the 39th minute, Page Sander capitalized on a Tiger miscue as Occidental's goalkeeper misplayed a back pass, leaving the ball in front of an empty net which Page Sander tapped in to put Pomona-Pitzer up 3-0.
Teams traded shots in the second half, with Hadley Johnson making four saves in the final 45 minutes. But the Sagehens held strong for their 11th shutout victory of the season.
