CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball defeated Linfield 91-81 in overtime Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 3-2 on the season.
Kyle Jasper led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-9 from deep, to go with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Charlie Hutchison contributed 17 points and five boards while
Matthew Diekmann had 14 points and six assists.
Sam Lind posted 13 points for the Sagehens.
Teams traded baskets to start the game, with Jasper knocking down a triple midway through the first half to tie things up at 14-14.
Connor Fitzgerald hit a three of his own before Lind knocked down another to put the Sagehens up 27-24.
Clyde Rosenberg and Hutchison scored in the paint late as Pomona-Pitzer led 36-29 at the half.
Jasper hit another trey five minutes into the second half, before the Wildcats used a 10-2 run to go up 53-50. Teams then traded baskets down the stretch, as a Diekmann triple with 4:29 left brought the Sagehens within one, 65-64. Hutchison and
Cooper Bladow traded threes to later put Pomona-Pitzer up a point, 70-69.
Trailing 75-73 with seven seconds left and coming out of a timeout, the Sagehens drew up a play to get Diekmann open under the hoop, where he scored to tie the game at 75 and force overtime.
The Sagehens came out hot in the overtime period, with Jasper hitting a three and Lind knocking down a pair of triples to put Pomona-Pitzer up 84-76. Jasper scored another from distance as the Sagehens held a commanding 89-79 lead with 1:53 left.
Darius Turner scored one more bucket as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 91-81 overtime victory.
