Sagehens Fall To Babson 65-59 In Day One Of David Wells Classic

CLAREMONT, CA - Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball fell 65-59 to Babson at home on Friday evening in the David Wells Tournament.

Season Impact: The Sagehens drop to 3-2 on the season.

Abigail Homan led the Sagehens with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting, knocking down a three and going a perfect 6-for-6 at the line. She added eight rebounds and three steals. Sara Chicco followed with 14 points, hitting four threes to go with five boards. Avery Patricco added 12 points, knocking down two threes and finishing 4-for-6 at the stripe. Kayla Malek chipped in five points and three assists, while Jadyn Lee added five points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Sagehens started strong in the first quarter, holding Babson to six points while controlling the pace defensively. Patricco opened the scoring with a three to give Pomona-Pitzer an early spark. Malek knocked down a triple at the 1:24 mark, and a late Chicco three pushed the Sagehens to an 11–6 lead after one quarter. In the second, the Sagehens continued to build momentum. Chicco caught fire, scoring a total of eight points in the second quarter alone. Sofia Robel, Kellie Au, and Patricco scored in the paint to bring the Sagehens lead to 25–20 going into halftime. Patricco got things going to start the second half by knocking down a pair of free throws and Chicco hit her third three of the game to give the Sagehens a double digit lead. J. Lee added an inside finish and a three-pointer but Babson found their way back by the end of the third. The Sagehens continued to knock down free throws and shots but Babson went 4-8 from 3PT range in the fourth quarter, giving them the 65–59 victory.
