CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo fell 13-11 to CMS Saturday at Haldeman Pool in the SCIAC Tournament championship game.
The Sagehens were led by
Chase Barman who earned a three-goal haul by netting three goals throughout the game.
Zach Whitfield also had a multigoal game and scored two goals.
Jake Lee,
Indigo Lee,
Max Distaso,
Miles Chiang,
Nick Grandinetti, and
Jaden Winters each netted one.
Pomona-Pitzer started strong with a strong effort against CMS with 3 first half goals, scoring two in the first and one in the second quarter. The Stags struck first to find an early lead, but
Zach Whitfield responded by netting a goal with 2:49 left on the clock. Barman then followed suit and secured a goal during a powerplay with 1:02 left on the clock to bring the Sagehens trailing CMS 2-3. Still, the Stags breached the Pomona-Pitzer defenses and, the Sagehens concluded the first period behind 2-4.
Jaden Winters started the scoring in the second period, by netting a goal with 7:18 left on the clock. However, the opposing offense continued to break through the Pomona-Pitzer defenses. The Sagehens fell behind and entered halftime down 3-7.
The Sagehens continued to play strong in the second half and secured eight more goals in the third and fourth quarters. Whitfield started the scoring in the second half by netting a goal with 3:50 left on the clock. Each team traded off scoring, but J. Lee and Chiang continued the momentum by securing a goal with 1:26 and 0:38 left on the clock, respectively. Pomona-Pitzer maintained their composure as they concluded the third quarter behind the Stags 6-10.
Barman started the scoring in the third quarter by scoring a goal during a powerplay with 6:17 left on the clock. Each team managed to score against the other as the competitive final quarter continued. I. Lee and Distaso netted goals with 4:44 and 2:22 left on the clock, respectively, to bring the Sagehens trailing 9-11. Barman and Grandinetti continued by securing goals with 1:04 and a buzzer-beating 0:01 left on the clock. The Stags, however, came away with the 13-11 win.
