FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball picked up a road victory with a 61-57 win over Pacific University Sunday afternoon.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 2-1 on the season.
Sara Chicco led all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 7-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Kayla Malek added 10 points while
Abigail Homan had nine points and eight boards. The Sagehens shot 42% from the floor and 50% from deep while holding the Boxers to a 33.8% shooting clip.
Chicco knocked down three triples in the opening quarter as the Sagehens took a 23-17 lead through the first 10 minutes.
Avery Patricco added a three of her own before Chicco knocked down another in the second quarter, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 36-28 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, Chicco hit three more triples before Malek scored a pair of free throws. The Sagehens maintained a 10 point lead, 52-42, heading into the final period. Sheak Joko hit a three and Homan scored in the paint to give the Sagehens a 59-49 lead with 3:14 to go. After the Boxers came back to make it a four-point game, 59-55, with 15 seconds left, Malek knocked down another pair of free throws as Pomona-Pitzer held on for the 61-57 victory.
