Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sagehens Advance With 3–0 NCAA First-Round Win Over St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

CLAREMONT, CA - The Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team opened their NCAA Championship run with a dominant 3–0 victory over St. Joseph's (L.I.) on Saturday.

From the whistle, the Sagehens dictated the tempo. Pomona-Pitzer generated chance after chance in the early minutes, including an early test at 00:48 when Imogen Roy Jenkyn forced a bottom-center save. The pressure continued as Ava Watanabe placed two strong shots on frame at 03:14 and 07:57, both turned away by a busy St. Joseph's goalkeeper.

Pomona-Pitzer's breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Vivian Rojas Collins capitalized from downtown, tucking home the opening goal to put the Sagehens ahead 1–0. She nearly doubled the lead minutes later at 39:16, firing a shot toward the top of the net that required another strong save. The Sagehens outshot St. Joseph's 14–0 in the first half and entered the break in control.

Pomona-Pitzer wasted no time extending their lead in the second half. At 48:27, Anjali Nuggehalli placed a low shot on target that was initially saved, but she stayed with the play and buried the rebound, making it 2–0 Sagehens just three minutes after the restart. The team's depth continued to shine. In the 60th minute, Taylor Marshall fired a missile from a free kick to push the lead to 3–0,  sealing the match. Goalkeepers Patricia DePalma and Hadley Johnson combined for the clean sheet, with the Sagehens' back line not allowing the Golden Eagles a single shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes.

Pomona-Pitzer's relentless attack resulted in 28 total shots, including 15 on target and eight corner kicks.

Up Next: With the win, the Sagehens advance to the second round of the NCAA Championships at 3:00 p.m. vs TBD.
