CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team continued their NCAA Tournament run with a shutout 2–0 second round victory over Puget Sound Sunday afternoon.
The Sagehens will now face Washington & Lee in the Sweet 16 next Saturday, Nov. 22.
Goalkeeper Patricia DePalma made an early high right save at the 3' minute mark, followed by another low center save at the 4' minute mark. Pomona-Pitzer replied by pushing against the Puget Sound defenses.
Imogen Roy Jenkyn
forced a low right save at the 5' minute mark.
The Sagehens broke through when
Vivian Rojas Collins
netted a goal in the bottom left corner on a free kick at the 9' minute mark to bring Pomona-Pitzer ahead 1-0. Another low right save from DePalma
at the 26' minute mark kept the Sagehens ahead.
Zakiah Sesay attempted to further the lead at the 39' minute mark, but her shot missed high right.
As Pomona-Pitzer started the second half in the lead, the Sagehen defenses stayed vigilant.
Hannah Hong forced a low left save at the 70' minute mark in an effort to widen the lead.
Sabina Peterson Rajalingam broke through and netted a goal at the 83' minute mark to increase the Pomona-Pitzer lead to 2-0. The Sagehen defense did not allow Puget Sound a single shot on goal throughout the entire game, eventually sealing the 2-0 NCAA Second Round win.
