WHITTIER, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell 3-0 (18-25, 11-25, 14-25) at Whittier Tuesday night.
Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 7-9 on the season, including 2-4 in SCIAC play.
Samantha Grabb led Pomona-Pitzer with six kills and a pair of blocks, while
Tene Ariyo and
Ella Mesard each had four kills.
Corrina Benson posted 17 digs to lead the team defensively along with four assists.
The Poets jumped out to a 15-9 lead early in the first set before
CC Porter registered a kill.
Anna Krebs and
Tene Ariyo posted kills of their own late, but Whittier took set one 25-18. Whittier got out to a 12-2 lead in the second before Grabb and
Charlotte Sekerka traded kills. Ariyo posted another kill later in the set, but the Poets won the game 25-11 to take a 2-0 match lead.
In the third,
Natalie Potter and Mesard tallied back-to-back kills to make it 6-5 Poets. Whittier pushed its lead to 17-9 later before Mesard registered another kill.
Alex Besteman notched a kill near the end of the frame, but Whittier won the third set 25-14 and the match, 3-0.
