CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell in four sets (11-25, 25-18, 21-25, 19-25) Saturday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 7-10 on the season, including 2-5 in SCIAC play.
Samantha Grabb led Pomona-Pitzer with nine kills on a .214 clip, adding six blocks.
Paige Mountanos added seven kills while
Nayla Ward added six with three blocks.
Mackenzie Bravo Woo posted a team-high 18 digs while
Savanna Cespedes had 16 to go with a team-best 19 assists.
CMS used a 6-0 run early in set one to go up 12-2 before
Natalie Potter registered a kill. The Athenas went on to take the first set, 25-11. Pomona-Pitzer responded in the second, as a Cespedes service ace capped a 4-0 Sagehen run to make it 15-7. Grabb and Porter traded kills late before a
Tene Ariyo kill sealed the set two Pomona-Pitzer win, 25-18.
Ward and Ariyo fueled an 8-1 Sagehen run to make it 21-18 Pomona-Pitzer in set two. But the Athenas finished the frame strong, scoring the game's final seven points to take it, 25-21. CMS then took a 15-7 advantage in set four before Mountanos and Grabb traded kills and
CC Porter and Grabb registered a block. Grabb recorded another kill late, but CMS went on to win set four, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
