WHITTIER, CA – The Sagehens battled back to earn a 2-1 win over Whittier on Saturday afternoon, powered by goals from Seb Lee Jara and Chris Chow.
Season Impact: With the win, Pomona-Pitzer improves to 7-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in SCIAC play.
The Poets struck first with a penalty kick in the 13' minute, but the Sagehens quickly regrouped and began to find their rhythm. Seb Lee Jara sparked the offense with an early shot in the 9' minute and tested the Whittier keeper again at the 15'. Aidan MacLennan and Chris Chow each added strong chances midway through the half, but it was Chow who delivered the breakthrough off of an assist from Nico Ulrich just before halftime.With 0:13 remaining in the first half, Ulrich's free kick found Chow in space, and he buried the header to even the match at 1-1 heading into the break.
Pomona-Pitzer carried that momentum into the second half. Just two minutes after the restart, Seb Lee Jara received a perfect through ball from Aidan MacLennan to slot home the go-ahead goal, giving the Sagehens a 2-1 advantage. The Sagehens continued to pressure, with chances from MacLennan in the 55' and 61' minutes and strong service from Guy Fuchs on multiple corners.
Goalkeeper Jasper Broad anchored the defense, tallying four key saves to secure the result. The Sagehen back line held firm as the clock wound down, closing out the match for another conference victory.
