LOS ANGELES — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball defeated Occidental 3-1 Friday night on the road.
Season Impact: The win moves the Sagehens to 7-7 on the season, including 2-2 in SCIAC play.
Paige Mountanos posted a team-high 17 kills on a .283 clip with nine digs to pace the Sagehens offensively, while
Samantha Grabb added 13 with a .393 hitting percentage.
Anna Krebs also reached double figures in kills with 11 and
Charlotte Sekerka had seven.
Corrina Benson notched a team-high 22 digs while
Sophie Mies had 25 assists.
The Sagehens pushed set one to game point, 24-23, after kills from Krebs and Sekerka. But the Tigers scored the next three to take the first set, 26-24. Pomona-Pitzer rebounded in the second with a convincing 25-14 win. A pair of Mountanos kills and a
Savanna Cespedes ace sealed the second set.
Teams battled back and forth in the third set, with kills from Krebs and Mountanos making it 23-22 Sagehens. Sekerka and Grabb then traded kills to take set three, 25-23. Set four also went down to the wire, with another Grabb kill putting the Sagehens at match point, 24-23. Occidental scored the next point, but
CC Porter notched a kill and the Tigers registered an attack error to give Pomona-Pitzer set four, 26-24, and the match, 3-1.
