CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer men's soccer team turned in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, shutting out Whittier 2–0 on Saturday afternoon at home.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9–4–3 overall and 5–4–2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens came out aggressive from the opening whistle, creating early scoring chances and dictating the tempo. In just the second minute, Aidan MacLennan fired a shot on target that forced an early save from Whittier's goalkeeper. Moments later, Alex Greenstein followed with a strike to the bottom corner that was also denied.
Pomona-Pitzer continued to press high and keep possession in Whittier's half. Guy Fuchs narrowly missed from distance in the 14th minute before helping the Sagehens break through late in the period. In the 45th minute, Fuchs delivered an assist to Kieran Veloria, who buried a shot to the top right corner for his first goal of the season, giving the Sagehens a 1–0 lead going into halftime.
The second half saw the Sagehens maintain control. The Sagehens doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Jack Yang capitalized on a setup from Kaili Shoop, finishing from close range to make it 2–0. Niclas Ulrich and Veloria continued to test Whittier's defense, each recording on-target attempts that kept the Poets under constant pressure.
On the defensive end, goalkeeper Jasper Broad was exceptional, recording multiple key saves, including a stop in the 81st minute to preserve the clean sheet. The Sagehens' back line, led by Chris Chow and Khalab Blagburn, stayed organized and limited Whittier to low-percentage chances throughout the match.
It was a physical contest, and despite the intensity, the Sagehens maintained composure and closed out the match strong to secure the shutout victory.
