Sagehens Fall To La Verne 26-8 At Merritt Field

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team fell to La Verne 26-8 on Saturday night at Merritt Field.
 
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Nick Kim who went 17-29 with 165 yards through the air with one touchdown and two interceptions.  Luke Levitt led the rushers with 42 yards on the ground while Jack Sobota led the receivers with 83 yards off of 7 catches and a touchdown in the loss.
 
The Sagehen defense was led by Trevor Carson with nine total tackles while Elliott Graziano came away with eight. Jacob Whiting, Alden Kling and Zachary LeBlanc each picked up a sack in the loss as well.
 
A very tough night of offense for the Sagehens against the Leopards after they were shut out for the first three quarters of the game.  La Verne jumped out to a 3-0 lead early with a field goal on their opening drive of the game and then added the first touchdown of the night late in the first to take a 9-0 lead.
 
The Leopards added another field goal and touchdown in the second quarter and went into the locker room with a 19-0 lead.
 
Neither team had much offense in the third quarter, but the Leopards earned their third touchdown of the night early in the fourth after a 6-play, 71 yard drive ended with a one-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 26-0.
 
Pomona-Pitzer finally got on the board in the fourth quarter off of an 8-play, 67-yard drive ending with a touchdown pass from Kim to Sobota, but the Leopards over matched the Sagehens at Merritt Field to hand Pomona-Pitzer their third-straight loss of the season.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next head to Chapman on Saturday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m.
