REDLANDS, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell in four sets (14-25, 25-23, 23-25, 23-25) Saturday evening at Redlands.
Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 9-13 on the season, including 4-8 in SCIAC play.
Paige Mountanos posted a team-high 12 kills versus the Bulldogs to go with 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.
Tene Ariyo and
Samantha Grabb each tallied 11 kills.
Corrina Benson notched 20 digs while
Ella Mesard had a season-high 15.
Savanna Cespedes led the Sagehens with 23 assists to go with seven digs.
Redlands jumped out to a 1-0 match lead with a 25-14 win in set one, scoring the final three points of the frame to take it. Pomona-Pitzer, though, responded in the second set, getting out to a 16-11 lead following a Grabb kill. Ariyo later posted a solo block to put the team up 20-14. Mountanos closed the 25-23 set win with a kill.
Teams traded points in the third, with a pair of Bulldog attack errors tying the game at 20-20. Ariyo staved off a Redlands set point opportunity with a kill, but the Bulldogs ultimately came away with the 25-23 set three win to go up 2-1 in the match.
Redlands maintained control through much of the fourth, pushing things to match point at 24-19. But the Sagehens responded with fourth straight points following kills from
Natalie Potter,
Charlotte Sekerka, Mesard and a Potter service ace. The Bulldogs, though, scored to take it 25-23 and win the match, 3-1.
