CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo team secured a 16-12 win against Redlands Wednesday night at home.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continue their season strong at 12-9 overall and 7-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Zach Whitfield, who netted a four-goal haul throughout the game.
Jaden Winters also secured a hattrick and
Darragh Flanders,
Alden Pfau, and
Max Distaso each had a multi-goal game and netted two each.
Jake Lee,
Indigo Lee, and
Miles Chiang each netted one goal.
Pomona-Pitzer started off strong against Redlands with five first half goals, scoring two in the first and three in the second quarter. The Sagehens struck first with Winters securing a penalty goal with 6:28 left on the clock. The Bulldogs then broke through the Sagehen defense, scoring three straight. However, Whitfield netted a goal with 0:51 left on the clock to bring Pomona-Pitzer trailing behind Redlands 2-3 as the first quarter concluded. Pfau started the scoring in the second quarter and netted a goal with 6:29 left on the clock to tie the score 4-4. Whitfield and Flanders each then scored a goal with 4:36 and 3:54 left on the clock. The Sagehens entered halftime ahead of Redlands 5-4.
Distaso started the scoring in the second half by netting a goal with 7:32 left on the clock. Pfau, Chiang, Distaso, and Flanders and then scored four more goals to give Pomona-Pitzer a 10-7 lead. Whitfield and Winters continued the momentum with late goals with 2:01 and 0:55 left on the clock, respectively. Despite relentless efforts from Redlands to score, the Sagehens maintained their lead and finished the third quarter still leading 12-11.
Indigo Lee started the scoring in the fourth quarter by netting a goal with 5:55 left on the clock. Whitfield, Winters, and
Jake Lee followed suit with each netting a goal with 4:20, 2:23, and 1:38 left on the clock, respectively, to widen the Pomona-Pitzer lead. The Sagehens finished the game with a 16-12 victory over Redlands.
