REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team lost its second straight SCIAC contest with a 16-14 loss at Redlands on Saturday night at Ted Runner Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens split quarterback play again this week with
Nick Kim going 20-29 through the air with 149 yards and a touchdown.
Grady Russo went 10-19 for 53 yards while Kim threw three interceptions in the game and Russo with one.
Jackson Walker and
Jack Sobota led the receivers with Walker hauling in four catches for 65 yards and Sobota with nine catches for 63 yards.
The defense did a good job limiting Redlands on offense with
Gus Burns coming away with 11 tackles and
Leo Ryals with 10. The Sagehens had one sack from
Max Eastman while forcing three turnovers off of an interception from
Alexander Rustay and two fumble recoveries for the defense.
The Sagehens struggled on offense in the first half as the Bulldogs shutout the Sagehens' offense and forced an interception early that led to the first points of the game to give Redlands a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs hit another field goal late in the first quarter and took a 6-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Redlands continued to tack on three points with their third field goal of the game to go up 9-0 and then score the game's first touchdown off of a 46-yard pass to take a 16-0 lead into halftime.
The Sagehens managed to get on the board in the third quarter with their first touchdown of the game after a fumble recovery on defense set them up for a three-play touchdown drive capped off by a
Nicholas Buchenau touchdown catch from Kim to cut the lead down to 16-8 after a successful two-point conversion.
Pomona-Pitzer shutout Redlands in the second half and had a chance to tie the game in the fourth after a one-yard touchdown by
Luke Levitt, but the two=point conversation failed as Redlands held a 16-14 lead with just under eight minutes to play.
The Sagehens had a few drives to take the lead, but their final drive ended in an interception as Redlands was able to hold off the Sagehens and hand Pomona-Pitzer their second consecutive SCIAC loss of the season.
