ORANGE, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball defeated Chapman 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20) Friday night on the road.

Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens' record at 8-11 on the season, including 3-6 in SCIAC play.

Paige Mountanos led the Pomona-Pitzer attack with 19 kills on a .313 clip, adding 11 digs, four blocks and a service ace. Anna Krebs and Samantha Grabb each added 12 kills. Corrina Benson anchored the defense with 24 digs while Savanna Cespedes dished out a team-high 23 assists.

A Mountanos kill, ace and a Natalie Potter kill gave the Sagehens a 19-14 advantage in the opening set. Chapman used a 3-0 run late but a Panther service error gave Pomona-Pitzer set one, 25-22. The Panthers responded in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. Krebs posted a pair of kills late but Chapman went on to win the second, 25-19.

After falling behind 3-0 in the third, the Sagehens used a 7-0 run capped by a Mountanos kill to take a 7-3 advantage. Kills from Mountanos and Cespedes later put Pomona-Pitzer up 16-13. Mountanos then sealed the 25-18 set three win with another kill.

With the game tied at 16 in the fourth, Krebs and Mountanos traded kills to give the Sagehens a two-point advantage. Chapan, though, responded with three unanswered points to take the lead. But the Sagehens finished strong, as a Benson service ace sealed a 7-1 run to take set four, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.
