Hong And Marshall Lead Sagehens To 2-0 Shutout Victory Against La Verne

CLAREMONT, CA – The #6 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer Team defeated La Verne at home with a 2-0 shutout victory.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continue their season strong 10-0-2 overall and 6-0-2 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehen defense started strong with goalkeeper Patricia DePalma saving an opposing attempt at the goal at the 1' minute mark. The Sagehens continued to bring the energy by creating several opportunities to score. Notably, Anya Offenbacher-Jones, Brooke Bailey, and Ava Watanabe each attempted to break through the La Verne defenses, but were each stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. Throughout the first half, the Sagehens maintained their edge and entered halftime in a competitive stalemate with La Verne 0-0.

The Sagehens played with energy in the second half. Imogen Roy Jenkyn and Brooke Bailey sought the La Verne goal early by making attempts at the 45' and 46' minute marks, but their shots were stopped by the opposing defenses. Taylor Marshall then scored her first goal of the season from about 30 yards out at the 46' minute mark which gave Pomona-Pitzer the 1-0 lead. The Sagehens continued to charge the opposing goal but were unable to widen the lead until Hannah Hong secured a penalty goal at the 66' minute mark to bring the Sagehen lead to 2-0. The Pomona-Pitzer defenses also remained steadfast as goalkeeper Hadley Johnson made saves at the 80' and 90' minute marks. The Sagehens maintained the lead through the end of the game and defeated LaVerne with a 2-0 win.
