CLAREMONT, CA –The Sagehens defeated Chapman 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at home.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continue their season strong 9-0-2 overall and 5-0-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens created assorted opportunities to score and secured an early lead. Midfielder Sabina Peterson Rajalingam started the scoring by netting the first goal in the top left corner at the 23' minute mark. Forward Hannah Hong then followed by scoring another goal off of an assist by Kendrick Dahlin at the 29' minute mark which gave the Sagehens a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
The Sagehens continued to bring the energy into the second half. Notably, Ava Watanabe, Peterson Rajalingam, Lucia Page Sander, and Ellie Peterson each tried to break through the opposing defenses but were stopped by the Chapman goalkeeper. Despite Chapman securing a penalty goal, the Sagehen defense remained strong as goalkeeper Hadley Johnson saved attempted goals from the opposing offense at the 67', 80' and 86' minute marks. The Sagehens stayed ahead and defeated Chapman with a 2-1 win.
