CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball defeated Skidmore College 81-53 behind a balanced offensive attack Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 6-5 on the season, including 0-2 in SCIAC play.
Joe Cookson led all scorers with 17 points and seven rebounds, while
Pete Boyle tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Ty Bergman poured in 14 points and six boards while
Sam Lind had eight points.
Samir O'Brien contributed seven points and six rebounds off the bench.
Teams traded baskets early, with Lind and Boyle knocking down three pointers and Lind finding Bergman for a layup to make it 10-6 Sagehens. Cookson later knocked down a trey and a lay-in to give Pomona-Pitzer a 20-13 lead.
Connor Fitzgerald nailed a triple off an assist from
Owen Avdalovic as the Sagehens took a 31-23 lead into the locker room.
Pomona-Pitzer came out firing in the second half, as a Boyle triple capped an 11-0 run to make it 42-23. Cookson hit a three off another assist from Avdalovic to extend the Sagehens' lead, 50-25. A
Peyton Mullarkey trey later made it 64-34 Sagehens. Cookson, Bergman,
Matthew Diekmann and
Kyle Jasper all scored down the stretch as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 81-53 win.
