Sagehens Fall To Tigers On the Road

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to SCIAC opponent Occidental 79-55 on Wednesday night at Rush Gymnasium.
 
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Jadyn Lee as the only Sagehen in double-digits with 12 points. Charlize Andaya chipped in with nine while Abigail Homan and Sara Chicco had eight each.
 
It was a tough night for the Sagehens shooting the basketball hitting on just 36.7% from the floor and 29.4% from three.  Pomona-Pitzer did convert more points off of turnovers than the Tigers, but Occidental controlled the paint with 44 points to the Sagehens' 24.
 
The Sagehens kept it close early in the game down just two points at 7-5 with seven minutes left in the first, but the Tigers took off on offense outscoring the Sagehens 18-5 in the final seven minutes of the first to take a big 25-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Occidental continued to build its lead early in the second quarter and went up by as much as 25 at 37-12 with 5:32 to play until halftime.   The Sagehens did well to finish the first half strong and chipped away at the lead to get it down to 17 at halftime trailing 39-22.
 
After taking such a big first half lead, the Tigers managed the game against the Sagehens and kept their lead in the third keeping pace with the Sagehens' offense. A very even quarter between the two teams saw Oxy with a one-point advantage at 17-16 in the third with the Tigers up 56-38 heading into the fourth.
 
With a comeback out of reach for Pomona-Pitzer, Occidental was able to ride out their large lead and handed the Sagehens their third loss in conference play.
