CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team held off Redlands late to earn a 76-74 win over the Bulldogs on Monday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Abigail Homan who went for 25 points in the win.
Jadyn Lee came away with 20 points while
Sara Chicco shot 6-8 from beyond the arc for 18 points and six rebounds.
The Sagehens had a great night shooting the ball once again against Redlands hitting on 50% from both the field and from three. Pomona-Pitzer converted 21 points off of turnovers and tallied 36 points in the paint.
The Sagehens got ahead early with some early offense to get them out to an 11-2 lead. Redlands chipped away at the lead and had a late surge in the first quarter to take the lead at 15-14 heading into the second.
Pomona-Pitzer regained the lead in the second quarter after a layup by Homan to make it 20-19. The Sagehens outscored the Bulldogs 21-15 in the second quarter and went into halftime up 35-30.
The Sagehens came out of halftime and maintained their lead early up 10 at 48-38 with 3:21 left in the third. The Sagehens held their largest lead of the night in the fourth up 15 points at 60-45 with 7:22 to play, but Redlands came surging back behind a 32-point fourth quarter that cut the lead down to a one-possession game with 23 seconds to play.
Redlands had a chance to win with the final shot of the game but it hit the side iron as the Sagehens bounced back with a big win over the Bulldogs at home.
