CLAREMONT, Calif. — Despite a career-high 26 points from
Sara Chicco, Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball fell 82-75 to the University of Chicago Thursday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The result drops the Sagehens to 7-4 on the season, including 2-0 in SCIAC play.
Chicco reached 26 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three, while going a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Jadyn Lee pitched in a near triple-double, posting 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, while
Emily Lee added 10 points and three assists.
Pomona-Pitzer led by as many as nine in the first half, with Chicco scoring 19 of her 26 through the first two quarters. The Sagehens maintained their lead until 8:21 left in the fourth quarter, when the Maroons took their first lead since the end of the first quarter and held on for the win.
Charlize Andaya got the scoring started with a driving layup before
Emily Lee knocked down a three to make it 10-6.
Jadyn Lee hit a jumper off a
Kellie Au assist as Pomona-Pitzer trailed 23-22 at the end of the first quarter.
Elsa Cottrell scored a pair of baskets early in the second quarter before Chicco hit a trey, giving the Sagehens a 32-25 advantage. Chicco hit three three-pointers in a two-minute span to later make it 43-34. Chicco then hit a two-point jumper before
Jadyn Lee pulled up for a mid-range basket, as Pomona-Pitzer led 47-39 at the half.
Teams traded baskets to start the third quarter, with an
Emily Lee driving layup giving the Sagehens a 54-47 advantage.
Shea Joko and
Abigail Homan then scored two-point baskets as Pomona-Pitzer took a 58-55 lead into the final quarter.
A
Jadyn Lee lay-in put the Sagehens up 62-58 early in the fourth. But Chicago answered with six unanswered points, making it 64-62 with 8:21 left. Back-to-back baskets from Jadyn and
Emily Lee later tied things up at 70 with 4:44 to go. The Maroons, though, used an 8-0 run to go up 78-70.
Jadyn Lee hit a pair of free throws and Chicco added another three late, but Chicago came away with the 82-75 win.
