Sagehens Defeat Loggers 2-0 In Home Opener

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a 2-0 win in their home opener over non-conference opponent Puget Sound on Sunday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 1-1-1 overall.

The Sagehens were led by Kyle Lau who netted both goals in the win. Keyon Namdar assisted both of Lau's goals while goalkeeper Jasper Broad earned his first shutout for the Sagehens picking up his first win in goal as well.

The Sagehens dominated possession against the Loggers and outshot Puget Sound 17-3 with six shots on target.

Pomona-Pitzer got the scoring going in the first half after some nice play through the midfield got the ball to Namdar on the right side. Namdar cut into the middle and played a low cross to Lau who hit it first time into the bottom corner of the goal to put the Sagehens on top 1-0 in the 35th minute.

After holding a 1-0 lead for the majority of the game, the Loggers played more men up the field to search for an equalizer.  The Sagehens took advantage of that late in the game and found another good scoring opportunity as Namdar beat his man down the line and found Lau in front of goal to deliver his brace as the Sagehens celebrated a win in their home opener.

Up Next: The Sagehens open SCIAC play at La Verne on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m.
