LA VENRE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a 3-0 win over La Verne in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at Ortmayer Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 2-1-1 overall.
The Sagehens had three different goal scorers in the win as Jeffery Tiglon,
Kyle Lau, and
Keyon Namdar all netted goals with assists from
Kieran Veloria and
Ryo Kasai.
Jasper Broad also earned his second-straight shutout of the season with seven saves to record the win.
The Sagehens were selective with their shots while the Leopards outshot Pomona-Pitzer 16-9, but the Sagehens had eight of their nine shots on target while La Verne only put seven on frame.
Pomona-Pitzer controlled the first half and got their breakthrough goal through some great team play after a ball played down the wing was played into the box by Veloria and then a flick by Tiglon around the backline set up a volley into the back of the net to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead in the 31
st minute.
After taking a 1-0 lead into half, the Sagehens managed to keep pace on offense with the Leopards with both teams taking five shots in the second half. The Sagehens found the back of the net with two of those and doubled their lead in the 70
th minute as Kasai found Lau for his third goal of the season and Namdar finished off the night with a shot just outside the box in the 87
th minute as the Sagehens earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
