Hong's Brace Pushes Sagehens Past Scots

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Macalester 3-1 on Friday night at the South Athletics Complex.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 2-0-1 on the year.

The Sagehens were led by Hannah Hong who netted a brace with two goals in the win while Vivian Rojas Collins added a goal as well with assists coming from Kendrick Dahlin on two of the three goals scored for Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens dominated possession again against a tough Macalester team that didn't put up many shots, but took advantage of the ones that they did get off with one goal off of just three total shots in the game. Pomona-Pitzer had 25 total shots with 15 on goal and three hitting the back of the net.

The Sagehens' offense got going early with two goals in the first nine minutes. Hong got the Sagehens out to a lead after she danced around a few defenders and shot a banger into the bottom corner to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.

Rojas Collins joined Hong on the score sheet after Dahlin played her in and after a flick over the defender, slotted a shot into the corner to double the Sagehens' lead at 2-0.

Macalester came back after they took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Sagehens that let a Scot in one v one against DePalma. The goalkeeper went in the right direction, but the ball just missed her outstretched arms as Macalester cut the lead down to 2-1.

The Sagehens controlled the entire second half with Macalester getting off just one shot in the last 45 minutes and with time ticking down, Hong netted her brace after a freekick was headed on by Dahlin and then finished by the head of Hong to cap off a big win for the Sagehens at home under the lights.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host UC Santa Cruz on Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m.
