Endo, Hong, And Burch Lift Sagehens Over UC Santa Cruz At Home

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team continued their unbeaten run of non-conference opponents with a 3-0 win over UC Santa Cruz on Thursday night at the South Athletics Complex.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 3-0-1 overall.

The Sagehens had three different goal scorers in the win as Ella Endo, Hannah Hong, and Isla Burch all netted goals in the win while Hong, Anjali Nuggehalli, and Taylor Marshall picked up assists. Patricia DePalma got the start and the win in goal along with another shutout after she went the full 90 with four saves.

Despite dominating possession for the majority of the game, the Sagehens and Banana Slugs fired off the same number of shots with 10 each while Pomona-Pitzer had six on target and UCSC with four.

The Sagehens found their offense at the beginning and end of the game after they got out to a hot start with a goal in the fourth minute of the match.  Hong did a good job of pressing the backline and forced a turnover that immediately led to a long distance shot by Endo that curled into the top corner of the goal to put the Sagehens up 1-0.

Pomona-Pitzer kept its 1-0 lead through halftime and deep into the second half before they doubled their lead at 2-0 in the 77th minute as Nuggehalli found Hong alone on the wing and wound up for a beautiful deep shot into the back corner of the net for the Sagehens' second goal of the night.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to cap off their big night with a goal from Burch. Marshall found Burch sprinting down the wing with a lob pass from the back line that Burch settled and chipped over the keeper as the Sagehens celebrated three goals on the night for their third win of the season.

Up Next: The Sagehens will remain home as they host St. Catherine on Sunday, September 15th at 10:30 a.m.
