LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell late to Occidental College 3-2 on Wednesday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Keyon Namdar and
Kyle Lau who each netted a goal in the loss while
Alex Greenstein added an assist as well off of the Namdar goal.
A near identical stat line between the two teams as Occidental slightly outshot the Sagehens at 12-10 with six shots on goal to Pomona-Pitzer's five. Each goalkeeper came away with three saves with Occidental committing one more foul than the Sagehens with 10.
Occidental started fast on their home field and jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute to take a 1-0 lead.
After playing from behind the majority of the first half, the Sagehens found the back of the net for the first time as Greenstein found Namdar for the equalizer to tie the match at 1-1 in the 40
th minute and went into halftime level.
The Sagehens then took the lead in the second half after a great long shot by Lau beat the Oxy keeper to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead in the road against the defending SCIAC Champions.
Pomona-Pitzer had a good recipe to try to get then upset on the road, but the Tigers equalized in the 66
th minute with a goal through the middle of the defense and then scored the game-winner in the 88
th minute off of a header in the box as the Sagehens road upset attempt came up short in the 3-2 loss.
