Sagehens Draw With Caltech At Home

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team drew with SCIAC opponent Caltech 3-3 on Saturday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 2-2-2 overall and start the SCIAC season 0-1-1.

The Sagehens were led by Kyle Lau, Keyon Namdar, and Alex Greenstein who each netted a goal in the draw. Thomas Moulder assisted two of the goals while Nicholas Mikhail had an assist as well.

A hot start for the Sagehens straight off of kickoff with two goals in the first three minutes of the match. Greenstein got the Sagehens out in front after a great through ball from Mikhail set up a one on one opportunity that Greenstein capitalized off of and beat the keeper to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.

Just under a minute later the Sagehens struck the back of the net again as Namdar connected with a beautiful cross into the box by Moulder to take a 2-0 lead early against the Beavers.

The Sagehens kept their lead for the middle part of the first half, but Caltech came back strong with two goals of their own just two minutes apart after a freekick goal and another from open play to tie the game at 2-2 heading into halftime.

After a brand-new game starting the second half, it was the Beavers who went ahead with their third-straight goal of the game after a penalty kick was given for a foul inside the box to give Caltech a 3-2 lead.

However, the Sagehens came back with a quick response as Moulder found Lau on the edge of the box and after a cut inside, Lau curled in a ball into the corner of the net to even the score again at 3-3.

Both teams had big chances in the final minutes of the second half including a goal line clear off the line by Adam Leikin to preserve the draw. But despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Sagehens had to settle for a draw at home against Caltech.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next head to Occidental on Wednesday September 25th at 7:00 p.m.
