WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell in their first SCIAC contest of the year with a 1-0 loss at Whittier on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-1-2 overall and start SCIAC play 0-1.
The Sagehens were left goalless in their first road contest of the season but did manage to outshoot Whittier 13-8. Neither team had many shots on goal, but the Poets put three shots on frame with the Sagehens getting just two shots on target.
The main turning point in the match was in the second half after a foul let the Poets set up a free kick from the outside. Whittier managed to capitalize off of the free kick as they swung in a ball that was deflected into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead in the 63
rd minute.
Pomona-Pitzer had two shots to try to tie the game late but the Poets were able to hold off the Sagehens to hand Pomona-Pitzer a loss in game one of the SCIAC season.
