CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team earned their fourth straight win with a 2-0 victory of St. Catherine University on Sunday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-0-1 overall to finish their non-conference slate.
The Sagehens were led by
Maxine Davey and
Imogen Jenkyn who netted the two goals in the win while Zakaiah Sesay earned her first collegiate point with an assist on the Jenkyn goal.
Patricia DePalma came away with another shutout, her third of the year, while she thanks her Sagehen defense who only let St. Kate's take one shot in the 90 minutes.
Pomona-Pitzer out shot St. Catherine 21-1 with 10 of those on target. The Sagehens also had three corners without the Wildcats registering one.
Despite controlling the majority of possession in the first half, the Sagehens could not find the back of the net despite a few good chances to take the lead.
After coming out of halftime still tied at 0-0, the Sagehens pressed forward more on defense and that pressure led to the first goal of the game after a turnover by the Wildcats' back line led to a deep shot by Davey that went into the top corner of the goal to put the Sagehens up 1-0 in the 53
rd minute.
The Sagehens went on to double their lead in the 72
nd minute as tow first-years combined after Sesay found Jenkyn on the wing, who beat her defender and let loose a blast into the near side corner of the goal to take a 2-0 lead.
The Sagehens continued to dominate possession throughout the 90 minutes as they cruised to a 2-0 win to finish off their non-conference season.
