SANTA CRUZ, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team opened its season on the road with a 2-0 loss to non-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz on Saturday afternoon at Lower Field.
The Sagehens drop their first contest of 2024 after being held scoreless against the Banana Slugs. Pomona-Pitzer registered two shots in each half with three of their four shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Jasper Broad had three saves for the Sagehens throughout the 90 minutes but ultimately ended up with the loss.
Not a ton of action in the first half between the two teams with both finding their footing in early on in the season. Each team came away with two shots in the first half and two corners for the Banana Slugs and one for the Sagehens as the two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
UC Santa Cruz found some more offense in the second half after they outshot the Sagehens 7-2 in the final 45 minutes. Within those seven shots, UC Santa Cruz found the back of the net twice and took a 1-0 lead in the 53
rd minute.
The Banana Slugs doubled their lead just over 10 minutes later with their second goal of the night as the Sagehens were held scoreless in their first game of 2024 to fall to 0-1.
