Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 22 Sagehens Hold No. 10 NYU Scoreless For 0-0 Draw At Home

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team opened their season with a 0-0 draw against No. 10 NYU on Friday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.

The Sagehens hosted the top 10 ranked Violets of NYU for an opening weekend battle between two perennial postseason teams in Claremont.  As expected, both teams came out with stellar defensive play to open the season for the no-goal draw but not for lack of action throughout the 90 minutes.  Patricia DePalma played the hero role for the Sagehens as she earned her first shutout of the 2024 season with four saves against the No. 10 ranked team in the nation.

The Sagehens had the possession and momentum early on in the match with some early opportunities and outshot NYU 6-3 In the first 45 minutes.  Ella Endo had the best chance of the night for the Sagehens but was unable to chip the NYU keeper to keep the game level.  The Sagehens also had another opportunity in the first half as Hannah Hong struck the post, but the two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.

NYU had much more possession and was a more threatening team in the second half with six shots in the final 45 minutes of play, but the Sagehens still advanced in their final third with nine second half shots.

Despite a great game between two ranked opponents, both teams put 0's on the score board to walk away with the 0-0 draw.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host non-conference opponent Puget Sound on Monday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m.
