WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team took game one of their three-game series against SCIAC opponent Whittier 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Hugh B. Mendez Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens now move into second place in the SCIAC standings with a 27-11 overall record and 15-7 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens outhit Whittier 11-4 with
JC Ng and
Isaac Kim both having three-hit nights in the win.
Nate Jakobs also had a multi-hit performance while
Greg Pierantoni,
Jimmy Legg, and
Matthew Nishimura had one.
Jake Hilton got the start and went five innings with just three hits and seven strikeouts for the no-decision.
Eric Prough picked up the win with the final three innings giving up just one hit for the combined shutout.
A quiet night offensively for both teams as the game remained scoreless for the first six innings of play. The Sagehens broke the drought in the top of the seventh off of an RBI single from Ng to bring in Legg for the first run of the game. Pomona-Pitzer added one more in the inning as Kim came around to score off of a wild pitch and that was all the Sagehens needed as Hilton and Prough kept the Poet bats off the board for the win.
