AMHERST, MA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team earned a win in their opening game of the NCAA Tournament with a 6-0 win over Drew University on Saturday morning at the Amherst Tennis Courts.
The Sagehens earned a bye in the first round and played Drew University who advanced over UMASS-Boston yesterday. The Sagehens started with a clean sweep of the doubles competition in which they didn't lose a single game.
Lauren Rha and
Nina Ye won at No.1 doubles,
Angie Zhou and
Marissa Markey won No. 2 doubles and
Alex Coleman and
Amelia Poor won No. 3 doubles all by the scores of 8-0.
After taking a quick 3-0 lead into singles, the Sagehens continued to dominate their competition.
Nyakiriri Kanefu came away with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles while Ye and Poor followed with 6-0, 6-0 wins as well at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to clinch the match without losing a game in all scores that contributed towards the final match score.
