CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team continued to roll through their conference schedule with a 13-4 win over SCIAC opponent Redlands on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 17-10 overall and 9-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Gabby Lewis who netted a first quarter hat-trick with three goals in the win.
Brienz Lang also had a multi-goal game with two for Pomona-Pitzer with
Kaylee Stigar,
Ayva Magna,
Namlhun Jachung,
Nikki Rubottom,
Mia Amberger,
Lauren Smith,
Natalie Sullivan Wu, and
Paityn Richardson all earning one goal each as well.
Zosia Amberger earned the win in the cage for the Sagehens with 11 saves and two steals.
Pomona-Pitzer had a huge first quarter against Redlands that shut the game down early with a 10-0 start in the first eight minutes. Stigar started the big quarter for the Sagehens with the opening goal followed by back-to-back goals from Lang to make it 3-0 within the first two minutes of play. Jachung, Lewis and Amberger got on the scoresheet followed by Rubottom to make it 7-0 with 3:15 still to play in the first. Lewis finished her hat-trick with the next two goals and Sullivan Wu ended the first with a goal to take a huge 10-0 lead over Redlands.
After scoring 10 goals in the first quarter, the Sagehens actually went scoreless in the second while the Bulldogs finally got on the board with two goals with the Sagehens still up big at halftime, 10-2.
Pomona-Pitzer slowed down on offense after their massive first quarter and only added one more goal in the third from Richardson to take an 11-3 lead into the fourth.
The Sagehens went on to add two more goals in the fourth from Smith and Magna as their big first quarter propelled them to a win over Redlands at home.
