CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball dropped game one of the doubleheader with the Chapman Panthers 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens recorded four hits in game one with one error while Chapman recorded seven hits in the contest with one error as well.
Devin Waddell pitched well in the first game, going 6.1 innings, forcing 12 groundouts while striking out three batters. Pomona-Pitzer fell 12-4 in game two in five innings, recording eight hits in the contest to Chapman's 12 hits with both teams recording one error. The Sagehens will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Chapman to wrap up the series at 11:00 a.m.

The Sagehens were the first to strike in game one, scoring in the bottom of the first after Waddell made quick work of the Panthers to start the game. The Sagehens saw a single to left field from
Kylie Liu before
Brooke Bullis recorded an RBI double to left center to bring Liu home, giving the Sagehens the 1-0 first inning lead.
The game went scoreless through the fifth inning before Chapman was able to find the equalizer in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI double down the left field line, tying the contest at 1-1. The Panthers pulled away after a seventh inning surge, scoring on a three-run home run to make it 4-1 before scoring on a wild pitch and later an RBI sacrifice fly to take a 6-1 lead.
The Sagehens saw a double from
Emily Hurtado in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't build off that, falling to the Panthers 6-1 in game one of the doubleheader.
Pomona-Pitzer 4, Chapman 12 – 5 innings.
The Panthers got off to a quick start after recording a three-run home run in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Sagehens were quick to level the playing field as they tied things up immediately in the bottom of the first.
Brooke Bullis laid down an RBI bunt for a single to cut the lead to 3-1 before Kylie Lie recorded an RBI sacrifice bunt to make it 3-2.
Claire Sefkow continued the action with an RBI sacrifice bunt to tie things at 3-3.
The Panthers kept the bats going, scoring five runs in the second and one in the third, putting the Sagehens down 9-3.
Devin Waddell was able to hit an RBI double to left center in the fourth the cut the lead to 9-4 but Chapman tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth and later shut down the Sagehens in the bottom of the inning, ending the game 12-4 in favor of the Panthers in five innings.
