REDLANDS, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team earned a 22-5 midweek road victory over the Redlands Bulldogs to improve to 10-1 on the season and 7-0 in the conference. The Sagehens will return to Claremont on Saturday, Apr. 6 when they host the Occidental Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Sagehens found the back of the net four times in the opening five minutes of play with
Fiona Lewis scoring the first goal of the game just under two minutes in.
Chloe Denhart made it 2-0 for the Sagehens before
Grace Warner and
Sydney Landauer scored just 16 seconds apart to make it 4-0 in the first quarter. Pomona-Pitzer continued their run with goals from
Hannah Gough,
Shoshi Henderson, Denhart, Lewis, and
Grace Tighe to make it 9-0 with 2:06 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs were able to score their first goal of the day off a free position shot with 1:45 left in the first but the Sagehens countered just over a minute later with a goal from
Grace Warner to make it 10-1. Redlands was able to score the last goal of the first quarter, connecting on another free position shot to make it 10-2 in favor of the Sagehens heading into the second quarter.
The Sagehens slowed things down in the second quarter, scoring four goals while allowing just one goal from the Bulldogs. The Sagehens built their 14-3 halftime lead with goals from Henderson, Lewis, and Landauer with
Shoshi Henderson scoring twice in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs were the first to find the net in the third quarter, scoring 51 seconds after the halftime break to cut the Sagehens lead to 14-4.
Taylor Glanville was able to respond for the Sagehens, scoring Pomona-Pitzer's 15th goal of the game with 11:58 left in the third quarter.
Shoshi Henderson continued to dominate on offense for the Sagehens, scoring her fourth goal of the contest to give Pomona-Pitzer a 16-4 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third.
Chloe Denhart and
Regan Schunk both added goals in the third to give the Sagehens a strong 18-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs were able to score first in the fourth, but the Sagehens closed out the contest on a 4-0 run with goals from
Chloe Denhart,
Hannah Gough,
Grace Tighe, and
River Buechner to take the 22-5 road victory over the Redlands Bulldogs.
