CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team earned a 24-2 victory over California Lutheran in the regular season finale to celebrate senior day on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Sagehens claim the SCIAC Regular Season Championship with a perfect 12-0 conference record and a 15-1 overall record. The Sagehens offense featured 17 different goal scorers which included
Tessa Stewart's first career goal.
Sydney Landauer led the team in goals with four while
Grace Warner led the team in points with seven, scoring two goals while dishing out five assists. The Sagehens will be back in action on Wednesday, May 1st when they host the Occidental Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
How It Happened
Shoshi Henderson got the scoring started for the Sagehens just over two minutes into the contest but the Regals responded right back to tie things at 1-1.
Sydney Landauer regained the lead for the Sagehens with 9:03 left in the first for her first goal of the game before Henderson struck the back of the net two minutes later to make it 3-1. It was smooth sailing from there on out as
Grace Warner,
Grace Tighe, and
Regan Schunk all scored to give the Sagehens a 7-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Sagehens struck first in the second quarter with
Sydney Landauer scoring before the Regals countered to make it 8-2 with 12:23 left in the first half. The Sagehens closed out the second quarter on a 6-0 run with goals from Landauer,
Madelyn Katz,
Maren Wydra,
Joella Linder,
Carly Sullivan,
Chloe Denhart, and
River Buechner to take a 15-2 lead heading into halftime.
The seniors shined in the second half as
Katherine Line scored 15 seconds into the third before
Reid Cohen struck the back of the net minutes later to make it 17-2.
Sydney Landauer scored with 9:00 left in the third before seniors
Grace Jackson and
Chloe Boudreau continued the senior goals for the Sagehens to make it 20-2. Boudreau's goal came just seconds after subbing into the attacking third for the first time of the day after anchoring the Sagehens defense, scoring almost immediately as
Grace Warner slotted a pass into the front of the cage with Boudreau putting it home.
The senior goal streak continued as
Tessa Stewart scored on a free position shot for her first career goal to make it 21-2.
Audrey Jacklyn and
Katherine Lin scored the remaining goals of the contest with Jacklyn scoring the final goal of the day to cap off a 24-2 victory for the Sagehens on senior day.
