CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team earned a 24-1 victory over the Occidental Tigers in the 2024 SCIAC Semifinal match on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Sagehens will host the CMS Athenas on Saturday night at 7pm to battle for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship.
How It Happened
The Tigers and Sagehens battled through nearly six full minutes of scoreless action before the Sagehens got the first goal of the contest with
Fiona Lewis striking the back of the net. The Tigers defense held the Sagehens to four goals in the first quarter with Lewis scoring the second before
Hannah Gough and
Sydney Landauer connected with the back of cage for the 4-0 first quarter lead.
Pomona-Pitzer finally broke through in the second quarter, scoring nine goals with Lewis,
Shoshi Henderson,
Grace Warner,
River Buechner,
Katherine Lin,
Ella Bradley, and
Regan Schunk all adding to Pomona-Pitzer's lead to make it 13-0 at the half. In the third quarter, Pomona-Pitzer continued to pepper the back of the Tigers goal with Buechner, Gough, Lewis,
Maren Wydra,
Taylor Glanville, and
Chloe Denhart all scoring to make it 20-0.
The Tigers scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but the Sagehens closed out the contest on a 4-0 run with goals from
Rhyan Goozh,
Madelyn Katz,
Grace Tighe, and
Katherine Lin sealing the Sagehens 24-1 victory.
