Sagehens Take One Off Chapman In Road Doubleheader

ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team split their doubleheader at Chapman with a 3-2 loss in extra innings in game one and a 7-3 win in game two on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park.
 
Season Impact: With the split, the Sagehens dropped only their second series of the year winning one of the three games against Chapman, and moved to 26-11 overall and 13-7 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens only collected five hits in game one as JC Ng, Isaac Kim, Greg Pierantoni, Nate Jakobs, and Jack Gold had one each with Kim and George Nahabedian earning RBIs on the day. Hannoh Seo got the start and a no-decision with five innings, two runs off four hits, and eight strikeouts. Wade Lawson and Eric Prough saw relief appearances with Prough picking up his second loss of the series.
 
The Panthers got ahead in the second inning of play with an early RBI single to make it 1-0. Chapman doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth off of a sacrifice fly to put the Sagehens in a 2-0 hole heading into the fifth.
 
The Sagehens came back late again against Chapman as Nahabedian got the deficit down to one after an RBI groundout in the seventh and Kim came up big again with a game-tying home run in the eighth to make it 2-2 late in the ballgame.
 
The Panthers came out with the late win for the second-straight game against Pomona-Pitzer with an RBI single up the middle to walk-off in game one of the doubleheader.

The Sagehens were led by Kim and Gold who each had two hits in the win while Ng, Jakobs, Pierantoni, Tanner DeGrazia, and Kade Morihara had one. Harry Deliyannis got the start and picked up the win with six innings of work, gave up three runs, and had seven strikeouts. Ethan Collins came in for the three-inning save to ensure the win in the final game of the series against Chapman.
 
The Sagehens played from in front for the first time this series in game three as DeGrazia singled home two to take a quick 2-0 lead.  Jimmy Legg earned an RBI via the bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0 before Chapman answered in the bottom half of the first to make it 3-1 heading into the second inning.
 
Ng brought home the fourth run of the game for the Sagehens with a sacrifice fly and later in the inning, Pierantoni blew the game open with a three-RBI triple to put the Sagehens up 7-1 in the top of the sixth.
 
Chapman responded with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, but the Sagehens were able to hold on to take one game of the series against the Panthers.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next end the regular season with a series against Whittier starting on Friday, May 3rd at Whittier at 3:30 p.m.
