WHITTIER, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team improved to 14-1 on the season and 11-0 in the SCIAC after a 25-4 road victory against the Whittier Poets on Wednesday night. Pomona-Pitzer dominated from start to finish against the Poets, scoring 12 goals in the opening quarter with
Shoshi Henderson leading the team with five goals and six assists on the night.
Sydney Landauer and
Katherine Lin both ended the night with four goals each with the Sagehens attack featuring 13 different goal scorers in the contest. The Sagehens will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 27th when they host the Cal Lutheran Regals at 11:00 a.m.
How It Happened
After winning the opening draw control,
Shoshi Henderson gave the ball to
Hannah Gough, who scored just seven seconds into the contest. The Sagehens scored just 24 seconds later with Henderson assisting
Sydney Landauer to make it 2-0. Henderson was able to score her first goal of the evening just 39 seconds later, increasing the Sagehens lead to 3-0. Henderson continued to make plays for the Sagehens, assisting on the Sagehens fourth goal of the day, this time off the stick of
Grace Tighe with Henderson having a very busy opening minute and 17 seconds of play.
The Sagehens continued to attack the Poets net as
Grace Warner, Henderson, Landauer,
Katherine Lin, and
River Buechner all found the back of the net to give the Sagehens a 12-0 lead to end the first quarter. Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer both scored two goals in the second quarter with
Katherine Lin and
Audrey Jacklyn striking to put the Sagehens up 14-2 heading into the halftime break.
Out of the break,
Sydney Landauer,
Grace Tighe,
Shoshi Henderson,
Ella Bradley, and
Katherine Lin all scored to increase the Sagehens lead to 19-3 with Whittier scoring once in the third. In the fourth quarter, the Sagehens continued their charge, picking up goals from
Joella Linder,
Madelyn Katz,
Chloe Denhart,
Katherine Lin, and
Maren Wydra en route to a 24-4 road victory against the Poets.
