CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team defeated Cal Lutheran 7-3 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, using 13 hits to earn the victory with
Kylie Liu leading the team with three hits and two RBIs.

Game one featured a tight battle for the first three innings with both teams staying scoreless with the Sagehens recording three hits to the Regals one hit in that stretch.
After a one, two, three inning from
Erika Rivera in the top of the fourth, the Sagehens broke the scoring drought in the bottom of the inning with
Claire Sefkow hitting an RBI double to left center to give Pomona-Pitzer the 1-0 lead.
The Regals responded with a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1 before an RBI double gave them the 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. The Sagehens didn't trail for long, using an RBI single from
Kylie Liu to tie things at 2-2 before
Brooke Bullis forced a fielding error on the Regals to bring in
Bella Carreon, putting the Sagehens back on top 3-2. Cal Lutheran managed to hit their second home run of the day to tie things at 3-3 in the sixth inning.
The Sagehens got right back to work in the bottom of the sixth, using a two RBI single from
Summer Gibson to regain the lead at 5-3. Pomona-Pitzer continued to attack, using an RBI single from
Bella Carreon and RBI single from
Kylie Liu to increase their lead to 7-3. The Regals attempted to counter in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with a single and two walks but
Nyla Springer worked out of the dangerous situation, forcing a game ending pop up to seal the Sagehens 7-3 victory in game one.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Sagehens fell behind 1-0 after a second inning run from the Regals after a Sagehen error. The game was scoreless from there through the fourth inning with the Sagehens finding the equalizer in the bottom of the fifth. After
Morgan Groves hit a single to short stop,
Summer Gibson ripped an RBI single up the middle to bring Groves home, tying things at 1-1 after five innings.
Cal Lutheran used a two RBI single to right center to take the lead at 3-1 in the top of the sixth. The Sagehens best opportunity for the comeback came in the bottom of the seventh.
Morgan Groves hit a single to second base and later moved to second after
Natalie Murguia worked a 10+ pitch at bat to earn a walk.
Devin Waddell nearly wrapped up the game for the Sagehens after a deep fly ball to the warning track was caught, putting two outs on the board.
Summer Gibson loaded the bases after an infield single, bringing
Bella Carreon up to bat. The Sagehens once again nearly had their winning moment, this time with Carreon drilling a hard hit ball to right field back at the wall but the Regals made the catch to escape the inning and take the final game of the series 3-1.
