THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell in extra innings to Cal Lutheran 5-4 in game one of their three-game series on Friday afternoon at Ullman Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 23-9 overall and 11-5 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Greg Pierantoni who went 2-5 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored in the loss.
JC Ng,
Nate Jakobs, and
Jack Gold also notched two base hits in the game while
Isaac Kim and
Andrew An had one each.
Jake Hilton got the start and ended up with a no-decision after 6.2 innings of work with four runs scored, three of them earned, five hits and seven strikeouts.
Eamonn Woods came on for 2.1 innings of relief work while
Eric Prough suffered the loss.
The Kingsmen jumped out ahead of Pomona-Pitzer early at home with a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and extended their lead in the third with an RBI single and a ground out that scored another to make it 3-0 Cal Lutheran heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens got the bats going in the top of the fourth as Pierantoni singled home Ng for the first run of the game for the Sagehens and
Tanner DeGrazia with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit down to one at 3-2.
William Kinney came in to score in the top of the fifth on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 3-3, but the Kingsmen came back in the seventh with an RBI single to reclaim the lead at 4-3.
Pomona-Pitzer battled back again in the top of the eighth with an RBI from Pierantoni and after chances to go ahead in the ninth and tenth innings, Cal Lutheran was able to score the walk-off run in the bottom of the 10
th to take game one of the SCIAC series.
