Gaither Nets 100th Career Goal In Sagehens' 18-2 Win Over Oxy

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team extended its win streak to 11 games with their 18-2 win over SCIAC opponent Occidental on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 19-10 overall and 11-0 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Lulu Gaither and Paityn Richardson who each netted a hat-trick in the win. Gaither also netted a career milestone with the 100th goal of her career. Abigail Wiesenthal, Ayva Magna, Gabby Lewis, Lisbon Zeigler, and Ava Bennett had multi-goal goals with two apiece while Namlhun Jachung and Mia Amberger had one. Thea Pine got the win in goal with 11 saves and one still and also recorded an assist in the win.
 
The Sagehens dominated from start to finish against Occidental after they outshot the Tigers 35-15 hitting on a .514 clip.  Pomona-Pitzer netted eight goals in the opening quarter to start out with a big lead. Wiesenthal and Gaither accounted for the first four goals while Jachung, Zeigler, and Lewis netted goals to put the Sagehens up 8-0 before Oxy ended the first with a goal to make it 8-1 heading into the second.
 
Zeigler opened the second quarter with a goal followed by back-to-back scores from Richardson to extend the lead to 11-1. Gaither ended the first half with her 100th career goal as the Sagehens went into halftime with a 12-1 lead.
 
The Tigers and Sagehens alternated goals out of halftime with Bennett finding the back of the net with Ameberger in the third to make it 14-2 heading into the fourth.
 
The defense shut out the Tigers in the fourth quarter while the Sagehens added four more goals from Richardson, Magna, and Bennett to cruise to their 11th-straight win of the season.
