CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated No. 10 Redlands 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer started the day by taking two of the three doubles matches against the Bulldogs but Redlands was able to get their only point of the match with a tiebreaker win at the No. 1 doubles match.
Angie Zhou and
Marissa Markey came away with a win at the No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while
Alex Coleman and
Amelia Poor won their match 8-5 to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
A clean sweep of singles play for the Sagehens taking all six matches over Redlands. Markey doubled her wins on the day with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 5 singles while
Nina Ye followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.
The Sagehens clinched the match with their No. 1 singles player as Zhou finished with a 6-4, 6-3 win to put another W in the win column for Pomona-Pitzer.
Nyakiriri Kanefu, Laeticia Bazua Vazquez, and
Lauren Rha all ended with singles wins as well after the clinch. Kanefu won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, Vazquez won her match 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 and Rha ended the day with a three-set win at the No. 2 singles by scores of 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.
