Sagehens End Saturday With Wins Over Occidental And Bucknell

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team came away with a Saturday sweep with a 13-2 win over SCIAC opponent Occidental and a 9-4 win over Bucknell on Saturday. 
 
Season Impact: With the pair of wins, the Sagehens improved to 8-9 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Paityn Richardson who netted a hat-trick in the win. Ayva Magna, Lauren Smith, and Lisbon Zeigler had two goals each while Gabby Lewis, Mia Ambberger, Sara Archer, and Lauren Valentine had one. Thea Pine got the start in goal for the Sagehens and had 11 saves and a steal for the win. Thea Pine got the start and the win in goal with 11 saves. 
 
The Sagehens jumped out to a 2-0 start in the first quarter as Amberger and Zeigler netted goals for the Sagehens to take an early lead.
 
Two quick goals for the Sagehens in the first three minutes of the second quarter from Richardson and Smith to double the lead at 4-0 before Occidental scored their first goal of the game off of a powerplay to make it 4-1 in the first half. 
 
The Sagehens responded with two more goals to end the first half as Gabby Lewis scored to make it 5-1 and Valentine netted a powerplay goal to give the Sagehens a 6-1 lead heading into halftime. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer continued to extend the lead in the third quarter as Richardson netted her second to start the second half and Archer scored off a powerplay to make it 8-1.  The Sagehens added another before the end of the third quarter as Smith scored a five-meter penalty to take a 9-1 lead into the fourth. 
 
Zeigler opened the fourth with a goal for Pomona-Pitzer for her second of the game and the Tigers answered with a powerplay goal to move the score to 10-2. 
 
The Sagehens went on to end the game with three goals as Richardson completed her hat-trick along with back-to-back goals from Magna as the Sagehens stayed unbeaten in SCIAC play with a road win over Occidental. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer 9, Bucknell 4 
 
The Sagehens were led by Abigail Wiesenthal who netted five goals in the win while Kaylee Stigar, Brienz Lang, Namlhun Jachung, and Amberger had one. 
 
Zosia Amberger got the start in game two and the win with 11 saves while Pine made an appearance in the fourth with two saves. 
 
The Sagehens jumped ahead of Bucknell early as Lang netted the first goal of the game before the Bison answered to make it 1-1. Wiesenthal then netted her first goal of the night to end the first quarter with the Sagehens up 2-1.  
 
After ending the first with a goal, Wiesenthal started the second with three-straight goal to put the Sagehens on top 5-1. Amberger went on to extend the lead to 5-1, but Bucknell scored just before halftime to cut the lead down to 6-2 heading into the break. 
 
The Bison started the second half with a goal which ended up being their only goal of the third as the Sagehens matched them with a goal from Jachung to head into the fourth up 7-3. 
 
Stigar and Wisenthal netted goals for the Sagehens in the fourth to solidify the lead as the Sagehens closed out Bucknell at home for the win.
