Sagehens Use 15 Goal Scorers to Defeat Poets 21-1

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse improved to 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play after earning a 21-1 victory over the Whittier Poets. This is the second-straight 20-goal game for the Sagehens, coming off a 20-1 win over the Redlands Bulldogs on Wednesday night, giving them 41 goals in the last two contests. Pomona-Pitzer had 15 different goal scorers on the night with six Sagehens scoring twice. River Buechner and Katherine Lin both had two goals and two assists while Buechner starred on both sides of the ball, earning five ground balls with four draw controls. Pomona-Pitzer will get a bit of a break as their next contest is on March 20 when they host the Cal Lutheran Regals at 7:00 p.m.
 
How It Happened
The Sagehens scored 15 seconds after the opening whistle with Sydney Landauer finding River Buechner for the first goal of the game. Pomona-Pitzer proceeded to increase their lead to 4-0 before the 10:00 mark in the first quarter, using goals from Grace Warner, Landauer, and Chloe Denhart to extend the lead. The Sagehens scored six more times in the first quarter with Fiona Lewis, Buechner, Audrey Jacklyn, Katherine Lin, and Hannah Gough all chiming in to make it 10-0 heading into the second. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer was able to score six more goals before the half with Lin, Caroline Welch, Grace Tighe, Madelyn Katz, and Izzy Sabatino all striking the nylon to make it 16-0 entering halftime. 
 
After a goal from Grace Jackson and one from Katz made it 18-0 in the third, the Poets managed to score their first goal of the game to make it 18-1 with 9:12 on the clock in the third. The Sagehens scored twice more in the third quarter with Jacklyn and Ella Bradley increasing the lead to 20-1. Joella Linder put the finishing touches on the victory, scoring her first collegiate goal to seal the 21-1 win for the Sagehens.
