Sagehens Run Rule Redlands In Game One Of Three Game Series

REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team opened their three-game series against SCIAC opponent Redlands with a 15-3 run-rule win in seven innings on Friday afternoon at The Yard.
 
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens put on an offensive clinic against the Bulldogs with 15 runs off of 18 hits. Isaac Kim went 4-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, Greg Pierantoni went 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, William Kinney went 3-5 with three runs scored and an RBI while JC Ng, Nate Jakobs, and Matthew Nishimura all had two hit performances in the win.
 
Jake Hilton got the ball in game one and recorded his fifth win of the season to move to 5-0 after six innings, three runs, and six strikeouts. Eamonn Woods came on for Hilton in relief with one inning of shutout bullpen work.
 
 The Sagehens built a strong lead early with three runs in their opening at-bats with RBIs from Kim, Pierantoni, and Kade Morihara. The Sagehens came back with two more in the top of the second after an RBI triple by Ng and another RBI single from Kim to take a 5-0 lead after two innings of play.
 
Redlands got one run back in the third off of an RBI single, and after a scoreless fourth from both teams, the Sagehens added four more runs in the fifth off of RBIs from Morihara, Nishimura, Kinney, and Jack Gold to take a commanding 9-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
 
Redlands started to chip away at the Sagehens' big lead with one run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, but the Sagehen offense erupted again with six runs in the top of the seventh. Kim came through with another RBI single as Pierantoni cleared the bases with a three-RBI double while Jakobs and Cooper Berry capped off the huge night for the Sagehens as they came away with the run-rule win over Redlands.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Redlands for a doubleheader beginning on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m.
